The franchise, which focuses on illegal street racing and heists - Fast & Furious, has currently signed the director of the biopic drama film Straight Outta Compton - F. Gary Gray, with that, the Furious 8 is finally back on track for release in 2017. The actor best known for his portrayals of Dominic Toretto in The Fast and the Furious film - Vin Diesel, confirmed one of the biggest changes coming to the franchise.

Vin Diesel who plays Richard B. Riddick in The Chronicles of Riddick trilogy, went on the late night show - The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon the other night to promote his latest film the supernatural action film - The Last Witch Hunter. Vin Diesel confirmed then that the setting of Furious 8 will indeed be headed to New York.

In the interview , he stated, "Something that people don't know is that the first film came from a Vibe article that was touched on street racers in New York, and the director and producer at the time changed the whole film in Los Angeles. But the Vibe article stated that the whole Fast and the Furious franchise started from actually a specified beginning in New York," Diesel also said, "So we're finally bringing the film back home, baby!"

Furthermore, Vin Diesel said to Jimmy Fallon that the upcoming Furious 8 is part of a grander trilogy - as Jimmy Fallon asked whether Vin Diesel planned to do three more movies, Diesel responded, "a trilogy, yes."

However, there's no official confirmation yet if the official title of the upcoming film will be Furious 8 or FF8, but during Vin Diesel's interview with MTV News, the actor  said, a lot of people are thinking "F8," but he's been calling the upcoming franchise "Fast 8."

Diesel's statement was, "I have no idea if the official title of the flick came out yet. It's never been the official title. You have to understand. When you talk about film titles and you talk about 'The Fast and the Furious,' in the first movie all through production the back of my chair said 'Red Line.' This is like, this is the number of strokes for the course of the Fast and the Furious franchise. We never know what is the official title."
