Lena Dunham HBO: After ‘Girls,’ Millennial Queen Working On New HBO Pilot, Feminist-Themed 60s Comedy

Although the actress, writer and filmmaker is often in the eye of the storm when it comes to various controversies, Lena Dunham's HBO involvement has certainly been a fairly big hit for the star, who earned a Golden Globe for her work with them back in 2013 - and now, she's embarking on a new project with the network that saw her become a star.

The first Lena Dunham HBO collaboration, "Girls," a show Dunham created and stars in, has gathered wide critical acclaim as the star is often called the voice of the millennial generation - and now, months after saying the next season of the show might be the last one, she's embarking on a new project with HBO.

According to The Guardian, the network responsible for "Game of Thrones" has now ordered a new Lena Dunham HBO pilot, a comedy series revolving around 1960s second-wave feminism, particularly in the magazine world of the time.

As Variety reports, the new Lena Dunham HBO series will be called "Max" and it will be set on 1963, in a pilot episode that Dunham will direct herself; the story will follow a female magazine writer at the time who finds herself interested in the women's liberation movement.

Lisa Joyce, who has worked in the past on "Billy & Billie" and "Boardwalk Empire," will get her first major role as the leading actress in the new Lena Dunham HBO series, which will apparently see the 29 year-old only working behind the camera.

Amazon Studios currently has a similar project in development, set in 1969.

According to Salon, "Max" might provide those who can't stand Dunham or her work a new refuge, as the show doesn't sound like the kind of work she's accustomed everyone to in the past few years, which has been greatly focused on millennial "brats."

If it makes it to a longer series, Lena Dunham's HBO show sounds like a fun comedy take on dramas of the period, including "Mad Men" and "Masters of Sex."
