Lolo Jones Consumes 9,000 Calories Daily After Switching From Track to Bobsledding

Lolo Jones, the track and field star who is currently competing for the U.S. bobsled team, gained 24 pounds of muscle in preparation for the upcoming 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

"I'm the heaviest ever in my life," Jones said Sunday after proudly weighting in at 157 pounds, according to USA Today Sport. "It took so much work.

Jones, who weighed 133 pounds during her track and field days, said she's a few pounds shy of reaching her goal of 160 pounds.

The two-time Olympic hurdler is transitioning from being a speedy track runner to pushing a 400-pound sled down an iced track. Jones is more accustomed to counting her calories insteading chowing down on 9,000 calories daily.

According to USA Today, Jones' weight gain has been so rapid that a tight fitting suit that fit two weeks ago tore when she tried to put it on again.

"I'm pumped about this muscle weight," Jones said. "My abs are still there. I'm cut, just super solid."

Jones said she drank two proteins shakes a day, each of which consisted of 1,365 calories and makes McDonalds runs at 10 p.m. for double bacon cheeseburger.

"Pilots don't like these skinny brakemen so they feel like they're pushing more weight than they have to," Jones said, adding that in the bobsledding world, the mantra is "mass pushes mass."

Despite her dedication to the sport, Jones has yet to make the team. The trails begin Oct. 12 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Jones told USA Today Sports that she will continue doing both track and bobsledding and is aiming for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Athletes from other sports who have tried bobsled did after retiring from a specific sport. The most notable converts are Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, hurdlers Renaldo Nehemiah and Edwin Moses and Super Bowl champ Willie Gault. Only Walker competed in the Olympics (1992).

Fenlator and Aja Evans, both former college track athletes, and Lauryn Williams, a 2004 U.S. Olympic silver medalist in the 100 meters, are also vying for a spot on the Sochi team.
