Amanda Bynes Leaves Hospital and Enters Rehab For Further Treatment on Mental Illness

Amanda Bynes has left the Los Angeles hospital, where she was being treated for mental illness, and has checked into a rehabilitation center in Malibu.

TMZ reported the 27-year-old is currently residing at The Canyon, a rehab facility favored by celebrities thanks to their exclusive and "sophisticated" surroundings, according to their website.

Bynes has reportedly resided in the center for the past three weeks. The center's website claims Bynes is not receiving the same level of treatment as she was at the UCLA Medical Center.

The actress has been assigned new doctors who have placed Bynes under a new psychiatric hold, called a LPS hold, which is part of the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act of 1967, meaning a mentally unstable patient can be held in a facility against their will for treatment, TMZ reported.

Doctors are reportedly worried about Bynes' state of mind and the actress could reportedly reside in the facility until 2015. According to TMZ, the actress is becoming increasingly "paranoid" that she will be photographed by paparazzi during her time inside the center.

Other media reports indicate the actress is not allowed to interact with her fellow patients and she prefers to spend time alone. Last week, Bynes's lawyer, Gerald Shargel, asked a Manhattan court for a "postponement for up to 18 months" while the actress continues psychiatric treatment.

The hearing was part of the Shargel's attempts to resolve a case against Bynes, where she allegedly threw a bong out of the window of her New York City apartment.

The former child-star was arrested on May 23, after police officers responded to calls that Bynes was allegedly smoking pot in the lobby of a mid-town apartment building. She allegedly threw a bong out of her 36th-floor window when police entered her apartment. The actress claims it was just a vase, the Daily News reported.

After the incident, Bynes told her Twitter followers the police account was "all lies" and that she as "Sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last."

She was placed under a 72-hour evaluation, in July, by California's sheriff deputies after being involved in an incident Monday night. According to CNN, the actress was "involved in a disturbance in a residential neighborhood in Thousand Oaks that resulted in an emergency call to the fire department that a gas can was burning in a residential driveway.

In California, the actress's attorney pleaded no contest to driving with a suspended license and she was sentenced to three years' summary probation. Bynes was also arrested in April 2012 for a DUI.
