[SPOILER ALERT! THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE CONTAINS DETAILS FROM THE SEASON FINALE OF 'THE STRAIN']
The season finale of 'The Strain' was as shocking as it was heartbreaking when Nora electrocuted herself after being infected by Kelly. However, fans still believe that Mia Maestro could still return in the third season.
So will Nora come back in 'The Strain' Season Three? According to TVLine, showrunner Carlton Cuse has a depressing response.
"Sadly and unfortunately Nora is dead," Cuse confirmed, although he did add that they didn't want to see her go.
"[Killing Nora] was a very hard decision, because Mia Maestro is one of the most wonderful people you'll meet and a very fine actress but on some level, the audience needs to be told narratively that no one is safe," he said.
The death of Nora wasn't just to prove a point. According to Cuse, it was also "necessary to move Eph into the place he needs to be for Season Three."
So what will happen to Eph now that Nora is gone? Executive producer Chuck Hogan says he will be looking for Zack.
"Eph is really going to be looking to do anything he can A) for revenge and B) to find out what happened to his son," Hogan said. "He's going to be on a tear in Season Three."
And it looks like Zack will play a bigger role in the third season.
"If you read the books, his role is pretty interesting and significant. He has a fairly complicated relationship with The Master," Cuse reveals. "What exactly is going on there is one of the big dramatic questions, and we're doing our own version of it in the series."
So what can we expect in 'The Strain' Season Three?
"We definitely won't see our gang living and working out of the same place, at least at the start of the season," Hogan said. "I do think the feel of the show is going to be different - not radically different, but we are going to be advancing the story faster."
'The Strain' Season Three will return to FX in 2016.
