The highly anticipated Lucasfilm flick 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' may still be a few months away from its premiere, but people are already talking about the film's sequel. It was recently confirmed that Benicio del Toro has been added to the 'Episode VIII' cast, which will also feature Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.
Although 'Star Wars Episode VIII' is still a long way from starting production, Benicio del Toro admits that he has already met up with director Rian Johnson. In an interview with Empire, the 'Sicario' star offered his opinion on what the young director can do for the 'Star Wars' sequel.
"I think like, a cool, sci-fi realism, if I may say that, if that makes any sense," del Toro said. "I love his film 'Looper,' and I just like talking to him about the film. He's one of those new talented people that 'Star Wars' is hiring to infuse the franchise with new steroids."
Benicio del Toro also revealed that he was into the 'Star Wars' franchise when he was growing up.
"I grew up with lobby cards of 'Star Wars' glued to my wall, back when they had lobby cards," del Toro said, adding that he didn't have any favorites.
"I still have the whole collection. I mean, well I might have lost a few. But I liked Han Solo, Chewbacca. I liked them all, especially that first 'Star Wars,' then 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of The Jedi.' Those three were movies that I saw as a youngster and you know kind of marked me, especially the first one."
Although Benicio del Toro has been the only actor confirmed to join the cast of 'Star Wars Episode VIII,' he may not be lonely for too long. It was recently reported that some young actresses have been auditioning for the female lead in the film, and the shortlist includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tatiana Maslany, Olivia Cooke and Gina Rodriguez.
