Actors Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel announced their separation after 14 years of marriage on Monday.
"Vincent Cassel confirms that he is separating from his wife Monica Bellucci by mutual agreement," Cassel spokeswoman said in a released a statement.
According to the Daily Mail, Bellucci's representatives also announced the separation to an Italian press agency, confirming a story published Saturday by the French edition of Closer magazine.
The actors met on the set of the 1996 French-language film "L'appartement" and married in 1991. Together they have two daughters, 8-year-old Deva and 3-year-old Léonie.
"We never know how long it will last." Belluci told Grazia magazine back in April. "Today, it works, but in a year from now, I don't know,"
According to the Huffington Post, Bellucci has spoken out about fidelity in the past. Reportedly saying it would be ridiculous for her to ask her husband to be faithful if she was away for two months.
"Passion you can feel for the worst man you ever met. But that has nothing to do with a deeper partnership," she told the London Times. "In such a one, passion stays, but more important is confidence, respect, knowing a man is not just loyal in a sex way, but that they will be there for you. That is more important than just fidelity."
The split marks the second marriage failure for Bellucci, who was with Italian photographer Claudio Basso for four years, before divorcing him in 1994.
"My wife and me are very different animals," Cassel told Closer. "This is probably the key to our relationship after 18 years together...We don't seek other people's approval."
According to the Daily Mail, Bellucci is currently shooting a film in Serbia.
The 48-year-old beauty was on the cover of the February 2013 issue of Vanity Fair Spain. She revealed to the magazine that she and Cassel owned homes in London, Rome and his native Paris, and were thinking of buying another in Brazil. She said that they were together but maintained separate lives.
"I never get involved in the choice of his papers nor in mine," Bellucci said. "We are very independent, we live in different worlds: His friends are your friends, mine are different."
The Bellucci has starred in "The Passion of the Christ" and the two Matrix sequels.
