As RTE Series Goes Global, Conor McGregor 'Gets Attention He Deserves'

Everything Conor McGregor touches seems to turn to gold - and now RTE have cashed in on the MMA star's success.

On the back of the Dubliner's (27) win over Chad Mendes in July, the State newscaster has sell its documentary sequence The Notorious, which followed McGregor's expedition for success, to many networks internationally.

The RTE2 production has been picked up by channels in seven different territories, including Australia, The Netherlands, Poland, Africa and Scandinavia.

In addition to being shown on screens in nations worldwide, The Notorious' fame also looks set to sky rocket as it is acquired by numerous airlines, including Qatar Airlines, Thai Airlines and Emirates.

The show originally started out as a one-off documentary by the station in 2013 and was later turned into a six-part series, which aired earlier this year and followed the champion and his career for six months. After it was broadcast on RTE, The Notorious was later picked up by FOX Sports US, where it was shown over six consecutive nights in April.

Speaking about the sale, RTE2's channel controller Bill Malone admitted the success of the show was down to McGregor's unique persona. "The bottom line is it's a great story, well told, featuring an amazing character. It's great to see it getting the attention it deserves on a worldwide stage," he said.

While the interim featherweight champion is based in the US with his other half, Dee Devlin  Conor enjoyed a trip back home just a couple of weeks ago. Although the Crumlin man is currently in training for his upcoming UFC 194 fight against Jose Aldo, which takes place this December, Conor was spotted enjoying a night out with friends and posing for selfies with fans in The Wright Venue in Swords.

UFC boss Dana White recently hinted that McGregor could be coming back to home shores for more than just a catch-up with friends and family.

Mr White said recently that Conor could be fighting in GAA headquarters Croke Park in front of an 80,000-strong crowd soon - if he defeats Aldo in their upcoming clash.
