Lady Gaga Named as Billboard’s 2015 Woman of the Year

The American singer, songwriter, and actress - Lady Gaga, will be feted as Billboard's 2015 Woman of the Year at the American music magazine's 10th annual Women in Music event.

Lady Gaga will be succeeding the 'Shake it Off' singer Taylor Swift, who appeared at last year's intimate event, that also celebrated the Grammy Hall of Fame - Aretha Franklin, the American singer and actress - Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea (Australian rapper and songwriter), the Price Tag hitmaker Jessie J, along with the English singer and songwriter Charli XCX and Idina Menzel.

The Poker Face hitmaker will receive the award on December 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York. Billboard's 10th annual Women in Music event will be televised for the first time, and will be held in connection with the publication of Billboard's Women in Music list, the event will select the year's 50 most robust females in the music industry. The Women in Music will be aired by Lifetime on December 18.

The winner of an MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year - Lady Gaga, has  been selected as the best, based on her "industry leadership, artistry, philanthropy, innovative contribution to music and inspiration to millions."

Janice Min, Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group co-president and chief creative officer, which are made up of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, stated, "Billboard's Woman of the Year has always represented the high quality in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one personifies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015."

Janice Min also said, "From Lady Gaga's show-stopping performance at the Oscars, to her co-headlining tour, to her philanthropic outreach and even Lady Gaga's foundation promoting youth wellbeing and empowerment, to her new role as a TV star, there is no woman have a commanding influence in the popular culture tastes and its gradual development as much as she is today. What a force."
