The new NBC drama 'Blindspot' features one of the most enigmatic and unique characters ever seen in a TV series, and it isn't Jaimie Alexander's amnesiac Jane Doe. The true star of the show is the intricate web of tattoos that adorn Jane Doe's body, all of which offers a clue to a crime that needs to be solved.
But who put the tattoos on Jane Doe in the first place? And what do they all mean?
'Blindspot' creator Martin Gero says the answer has been hinted upon right from the start. According to Variety, Gero worked with tattoo specialist Christian Tinsley as well as puzzlemaker and magician David Kwong to create a message that can easily be read, if you know where to look.
"You could solve it yourself after having seen the pilot," Gero said. "No one has yet. I was like - it's some sort of prize for the person that can figure it out. I'd be so impressed. But you can piece these together yourself, and so it's really important for us as a collaboration between the writers, Tinsley, and [David Kwong] that this all makes sense and it all has a flow to it."
And get ready for bigger clues in the upcoming episodes of 'Blindspot.' Martin Gero says that one of the episodes will be a story on its own.
"Our story of the week, so to speak, comes from one of Jane's tattoos and is close-ended and like a little action movie in and of itself," Gero said. "But then what's great about the show is that we're able to do a layered character drama on top of that."
Martin Gero also promised that the show will introduce more characters in the future.
"Certainly, for me, especially when you're doing 22 [episodes] a year, sometimes you find out about something and you're like, 'oh man, I don't have 22 hours to catch up on the first season.' And so for us it's very important that the show has an entry point for anybody at any time."
The third 'Blindspot' episode, 'Eight Slim Grins,' will air on NBC on October 5.
