Upcoming Bentley SUV's On-Board Clock Is More Expensive than the Car Itself

The world of luxury goods can be pretty loony to the average consumer. Most people will never be able to afford a Bentley but the British marque is not interested in regular Joes. Bentley is going ahead with probably one of its most ambitious projects yet: the Bentley Bentayga with Mulliner Tourbillon clock.

Yup, the clock needs special mention. It would seem that the onboard clock of the Bentley SUV is more expensive than the car itself, CNBC reported. So, let's talk about the clock. It was created by Breitling which has had a long-standing partnership with the car maker.

The clock is also a self-winding mechanical clock and, as such, requires a special mechanism that spins it around every 15 minutes. An optional button allows the driver or passenger to spin it around one more time, Car Scoops reported.

It also has a tourbillon, a timepiece complication (which is another word for "feature") that is supposed to counter the effects of gravity, which in turn affects the accuracy of the timepiece. Many people disprove this claim but one thing is sure: the Mulliner Tourbillon looks stunning in operation.

It also comes in white or rose gold, your choice. The clock also comes in two dials, black ebony and mother-of-pearl. And to round it all up, the clock features eight large diamonds as indexes. You can get this clock for $234,000. Of course, you have to get the car that comes with it too and that would set you back $229,100 for the base model. Higher end models will cost you much more.

In all fairness to Bentley, the interiors of the Bentayga really do look good especially with the Mulliner Tourbillon clock. If price was not an issue surely everyone would have one. If you are one of the crazy folks who would opt in, then you can really prize your ride as being one of the most exclusive SUVs that boasts unmatched power, heritage, and luxury in every square inch.
