Sweet Treats Are Made of This: World's Most Expensive Cake is Worth $75M and an Arab Family Wants It

Former designer turned baker has created the world's most expensive cake by far.  Debbie Wingham was commissioned by a wealthy Arab family to create a cake in celebration for the daughter's birthday and coming engagement.  The 6 foot long cake is reported to cost $75 million according to Emirates 24/7.

Wingham, 33 a well-known British designer, also previously created the world's most expensive dress for a whooping amount of $17.7 million as reported in Today. Turning her back from the runway, she focused herself to baking and created yet another world record.

The six foot long confection took 1,100 hours to make, since all the pieces were handcrafted.  The cake weighs 450 kilograms, the equivalent weight of a male grizzly bear, according to the reports.  The cake was designed like a catwalk which features Wingham's couture clothing and accessories including sunglasses and handbags.  Several of the small models on the cake are wearing gowns that are edible versions of the pieces that Wingham previously made.  Some of the models are wearing pieces that the designer made for the bride.  Every piece of the cake was hand sculpted by Wingham.  It has over 120 kilograms of fondant icing and 60 kilograms of modelling chocolate which she mostly used for sculpting along with 80 different airbrush colours and effects.

However much of its value comes from the jewels adorning the cake.  The cake has 4,000 diamonds, including a 5.2 carat pink diamond, a 6.4 carat yellow diamond and 15 pieces of 5 carat white diamonds.  Those 17 stones alone are already worth more than $45 million.  Along the runway are 400 pieces of 1 carat white diamonds, with 73 pieces 3 carat white diamonds.  The designer also used 75 pieces of 3 carat black diamonds.

According to Daily Mail, Wingham was happy that her clients really liked what she created, "I feel delighted that the cake was a great success and the clients last night were over the moon and the guests.   "The cake was very time consuming with extremely tiny details but I tried to make it as true to a runway show as possible."

Wingham also claimed that the cake was tasty as she told CNBC.  The front-row  seating of the cake was dne in "Madagascan vanilla bean with mascarpone cream and strawberry conserve" while the runway was done in "triple Belgium chocolate with chocolate ganache and chocolate truffle cream".  This cake is definitely one rich creation.

"I really enjoy unusual projects and I plan to keep creating unusual cakes which are more like edible art installation," she said.
