Glow in the Dark Chickens: Shedding a Light Against Bird Flu

Glow in the dark chickens are currently making the headlines as it is reported that these GMO species are a step closer in combating the Bird Flu virus. As per Yahoo News, the glow in the dark poultry will one day end the long battle being fought against the bird flu virus.

As per the report, British scientist have been studying genetically modifies chickens [GMO] to block the bird flu virus. The virus has been causing havoc all over the world as it continually affects the poultry population worldwide.

Backed by the UK government and top chicken companies, the research is currently progressing. The researchers are hoping that the end result would eventually prevent the re-occurrence of this year's poultry wipe out. More than 48 million chickens and turkeys were killed because of the disease which hit since December 2014 in the United States alone.

These glowing chickens were injected with a fluorescent protein for the researchers to be able to distinguish them from normal birds in experiments.  The chickens however would be out in the market anytime soon. Health regulators around the world have yet to approve any animal bread as GMO for food consumption for long term health risks.

Bird flu has become a global concern as is continues to infect poultry products. Numerous researched have already emerged in fighting the disease as it can be lethal to humans as well.

As per Slant News, the Bird Flu Virus [Avian Flu Outbreak] has caused a huge casualty in poultry production affecting numerous poultry suppliers. The outbreak continually increased the prices of the goods that are being sold, as eggs are becoming more costly in various states in the US alone. As of this year, egg carton process has increased by 150% and experts predict that frozen turkeys will be approximately 20% more expensive for this year's thanksgiving celebration.
