Food to Eat for A Good Night's Sleep

Sleep has always been an individual's luxury. Getting inadequate amount of sleep can cause numerous physical illnesses that can eventually lead to something more serious. BBC's good food then stated that only 1 out of 10 individuals is privileged enough to get a good night sleep.  

As per Health Magazine, an individual's food intake can be one of the factors that affect the sleeping pattern. It is important to eat the right diet before hitting the sack. The website then made a list of the right food to consume before bedtime that can aid in one's rest.

Cherries

One of the registered dieticians in New York City and the author of "The Small Change Diet", Keri Gans stated that cherries are one for the best food items to eat just before sleeping as it is one of the few food items that's rich in melatonin.

Melatonin is a chemical that aids in controlling the individual's body clock. A small study on cherries stated that drinking tart cherry juices resulted in small improvements in sleep quality and duration for adults who suffered from chronic insomnia.

Milk

Drinking Milk before sleep may seem like a myth, but milk does contain amino acid tryptophan, which is a precursor to the brain chemical serotonin. As for some, they believe that tryptophan and serotonin might make it easier to sleep.

Jasmine Rice

Studies revealed that Jasmine rice ranks high in the glycemic index, which means that it a bit slow to digest as it gradually release glucose into the blood stream.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that Jasmine Rice consumption just hours before bed time took to fall asleep in half when compared with eating a high-glycemic-index meal at the same interval. The authors specified that high-glycemic index meals increases the production of tryptophan.

Herbal Teas

Camomile, passion flower tea and valerian have sedative effects that soothes the body.
