Over the past four years, the civil war in Syria has been taking lives and most of which are from innocent civilians. As of this day, the war has captured the hearts of compassionate individuals. Netizens all over the world were more enraged when a photo of a five year old boy was found lifeless on the shores of southern Turkey. BCC news then reported that demand to open doors towards Syrian refugees have been spreading online. Raging from UK down to Saudi Arbia, the demand that Syrian and other refugees to be accepted is being spread by numerous online campaigns.
An activist campaign is currently making the headlines for its unique stand. It is their demand to be lax in terms of the rules. They are making a stand to let the refugees in, particularly Syrians fleeting the war.
A promise from Iceland
In support for an Icelandic writer's Facebook plea for her country to take in more refugees, more than 12,000 people have shown their support.
Not everyone is supportive as some of them are shaming Arab countries. As some of them stated that "Islam is totally not compatible with Europe." -read one comment on Facebook.
Amidst the negative feedback however, large number of supporters in such a small country caught global attention. One commenter on Facebook stated: "Thank you, Icelanders, for again taking the lead as citizens - not only of Iceland, but also of the world, you a great country, a great people."
Some Arab human rights activist started a hash tag campaign shaming their government as it was reported that Arab countries didn't take action in helping Syria. One Palestinian then Tweeter: "It is shameful when Iceland and Austria open their doors to Syrians and the Arab Gulf countries allow none,"
