Raising awareness of the food we eat is the main goal of the makers of successful 2014 documentary “Fed Up.” To make their dream of healthier Americans a reality, Katie Couric, Laurie David, and Director Stephanie Soechtig teamed up with TWC and launched a Kickstarter campaign.
They wish to equip teachers who sign up with them with a free copy of the documentary, a “Fed Up” and Food Education Kit. The kit will contain an exhibition license for unlimited screenings of the 60-minute classroom version and a comprehensive study guide.
Katie Couric narrates the documentary which blows the lid off the food industry. “Fed Up” attempts to jumpstart the initiative to make healthier choices. Laurie David shared on the Huffington Post how there is a “well-funded and efficient system at work every day educating kids about food. The problem is, it’s the food industry that’s doing the teaching.”
The documentary was first shown at Sundance 2014 and was bought by RADiUS-TWC to help extend the reach of the film. On the Kickstarter page, the “Fed Up” team puts things in perspective. “What we’re left with is the greatest public health crisis of our time. This is the first generation of American children expected to live SHORTER lives than their parents.”
The documentary started with a bang and over 65,000 individuals participated in going sugar-free for 10 days. But that is not enough. With the support of the Kickstarter campaign, miseducation on the food we eat can be finally stopped.
The campaign is looking good as of this writing. There are still 29 days to go before the campaign ends and already there are 135 backers who have pledged a total of $14,427. The goal is reach $150,000 in pledges. There are 16 options for those who wish to support the campaign, ranging from $1 to $2,500.
