Guillermo Del Toro On 'Pacific Rim 3': "I Would Love To See A Jaeger And Godzilla Duke It Out!"

The sequel to the 2013 monster flick 'Pacific Rim' could possibly feature the greatest kaiju of all time!

There have been rumors about a possible crossover between 'Godzilla' and 'Pacific Rim,' since both films were being distributed by Legendary. Moviepilot recently spoke to 'Pacific Rim' director Guillermo del Toro to ask about the sequel and what he thinks about the crossover for the third film.

"So far with the sequel, what we're writing, what we're creating, is very different, so there are no plans," del Toro said. "Hypothetically, I would love the f--k out of it. I would love to see a Jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain."

Godzilla's appearance in 'Pacific Rim 3' would be a welcome idea to the kaiju's fans, who may have been disappointed by his 11-minute appearance in the 2014 film. However, director Gareth Edwards is quick to point out that the sequel will be much better.

"I'm writing it now, and it's really going to be great," Edwards confirmed. "I don't want to go off book and tell you anything that I'm not allowed to tell you."

What can be expected in 'Godzilla 2?'

"The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that that world is established, we can do bigger and even better things," Edwards said. "We're really stoked."

The 2014 'Godzilla' film starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe. The film focused mainly on the US Navy's attempts to get Godzilla to kill several Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms (MUTOs). At the end of the movie, the kaiju is hailed 'King of the Monsters.'

On the other hand, 'Pacific Rim' finds humanity trying to defeat the kaijus by using giant robots known as Jaegers.

Could a 'Pacific Rim/Godzilla' crossover happen in the future? Guillermo del Toro and Gareth Edwards had no further comment.
