Pierce Brosnan James Bond: Did ‘GoldenEye’ Actor Just Call 007 Producer Barbara Broccoli Homophobic?

With the release of Sam Mendes' second film behind the camera for the world's most famous spy just around the corner, the actor who played the suave killer before Daniel Craig has spoken about the character that made him a superstar, and it would seem like Pierce Brosnan's James Bond opinion isn't the highest when it comes to the franchise's producers.

55 year-old Barbara Broccoli has been part of the producing team of every 007 film since 1987's "The Living Daylights" with Timothy Dalton, although the better part of her work has been on Craig's films as well as Pierce Brosnan's James Bond movies - and, according to the Irish actor, she wouldn't allow the superspy to be gay.

According to The Guardian, the 62 year-old actor recently spoke of the possibility of a gay Pierce Brosnan James Bond, saying that while he thought it'd "make for an interesting viewing," he was convinced producer Broccoli wouldn't allow such a huge canonical switch.

Speaking to Details about Pierce Brosnan's James Bond past and where he sees the character going, the "Die Another Day" star said he'd be all up for the famous womanizer to be

"Sure. Why not?" said Pierce Brosnan of James Bond when asked what he thought about the character being gay. "Actually, I don't know how it would work. I don't think Barbara would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime. But it would certainly make for interesting viewing. Let's start with a great black actor being James Bond. Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence. But I think Daniel will be there for a while yet."

It's not the first time that Brosnan has put his seal of approval on Elba as the MI6 spy with a license to kill, as he's said before that Elba definitely has the suave mystique to him to portray the character; in the meantime, according to The Independent, Craig has one more film in his contract after "Spectre," and he has expressed a desire to leave Bond afterwards.

In any case, it's always great to see what an actor thinks of his most famous character, so Pierce Brosnan's James Bond opinion is always welcome!
