'The Winds Of Winter' Update: George R.R. Martin Reveals New Chapter From 'A Song Of Ice And Fire' Book Six! Who Is Princess Arianne Of Dorne?

The sixth book of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series 'A Song of Ice and Fire' might take a bit longer before actually being published. However, this doesn't mean that the author hasn't already written a few chapters for the highly-anticipated 'The Winds of Winter!'

George R.R. Martin recently attended the Sasquan science-fiction convention in Spokane, where he answered a few questions about 'A Song of Ice and Fire' after reading a chapter from 'The Winds of Winter.' According to Geek Wire, the chapter that the author read to his audience was from the point of view of Arianne Martell, Princess of Dorne.

Who is Princess Arianne of Dorne, and why hasn't she appeared in 'Game of Thrones?'

Princess Arianne Nymeros Martell is the eldest daughter of Prince Doran of Dorne and the heiress of Sunspear. Arianne Martell has appeared in 'A Song of Ice and Fire' since the first book, 'Game of Thrones,' where her father planned to marry her to Viserys Targaryen.

In 'A Clash of Kings' and 'A Storm of Swords,' Princess Arianne welcomes Myrcella Baratheon and her sworn shield Ser Arys Oakheart to Dorne then proceeds to have an affair with the Kingsguard. She is one of the POV characters in 'A Feast of Crows' and also has a significant role in 'A Dance of Dragons.'

But what happens to Princess Arianne of Dorne in 'The Winds of Winter?'

The chapter follows Arianne Martell as she departs from Sunspear to find out what happened to Aegon Targaryen. The Princess of Dorne is accompanied by her sworn shield Ser Daemon Sand as well as her cousin Elia Sand, and they set off on a ship to the Stormlands.

George R.R. Martin did not explain why Princess Arianne of Dorne has not been featured in the HBO show 'Game of Thrones,' however he did address the question on whether 'The Winds of Winter' will finally be released by next spring.

"Don't ask me when the book is going to be done - I'll ask my minions to lop your head off," Martin joked.

The sixth season of 'Game of Thrones' will premiere on HBO in 2016.
