Google is currently developing the new Android M as introduced last May at the Google I/O conference, which is now called Android Marshmallow. The new operating system is expected to be experienced by the users this coming fall.
The company has been using the naming convention after sweets alphabetically to trigger users' prediction and excitement on the software. Some have guessed that Android M would be named after M&Ms. Aside from the names, each of them is associated with a 3D icon pastured at Google's lawn.
A video has been released to show how the coming products was created.
Android Marshmallow preview is now available on Nexus devices, as well as the Android 6.0 SDK for developers. The tech company wrote on its official blog that images for the operating system will soon be released but will not be available for consumers.
"The preview images are near final but they are not intended for consumer use. Remember that when Android 6.0 Marshmallow launches to the public later this fall, you'll need to manually re-flash your device to a factory image to continue to receive consumer OTA updates for your Nexus device," Google wrote.
Android Pay is one of the new features of the coming OS which will make paying more convenient to users. By just using their phones when buying in any stores, online or not, they can check their bills. Before, the company used Google Wallet which allowed users to transfer money to sellers, but it was changed to enable them pay small amounts.
By holding the home button, users can unveil another new feature called 'Now On Top' which opens Google Now that serves as an assistant, just like Apple's Siri.
Android names may sound frivolous but Google has its earnest effort in marketing such products. Around 80 percent of smartphones in the world are running on the tech company's operating systems.
The release date is not final yet, but the disclosed name with the statue representing the coming OS hints that its arrival is nearer.
