Elton John Blasts Mayor Luigi Brugnaro For Banning Books On Homosexuality!

Sir Elton John, who married his longtime partner David Furnish, criticized Mayor Luigi Brugnaro through his Instagram.

Mayor Luigi Brugnaro of Venice, Italy, banned 49 LGBT themed books from schools.

The 68 year old 'Rocket Man' singer who has 2 sons with Furnish slammed the mayor's campaign via Instagram post. Showing the image of his favorite book 'The Family Book,' by Todd Parr, along with the image is a message slamming Brugnaro, The Times Of India reports.

He wrote, "Here is one of the Furnish-John family's favourite storybooks," John wrote. "It champions an all-inclusive world where families come in all shapes, sizes and colours. And most importantly, that families are about love. Our boys adore it."

"And in the opposing corner we have Luigi Brugnaro, the extremely silly looking mayor of Venice. He's stupidly chosen to politicise children's books by banning titles that touch on same sex families living happily ever after," John added.

"So instead of encouraging a world based on inclusiveness, tolerance and love, he's championing a future society that's divisive and fosters ignorance... Beautiful Venice is indeed sinking, but not as fast as the boorishly bigoted Brugnaro."

263 Italian authors wrote a letter to Brugnaro demanding that their books should be banned as well as an act of solidarity for the writers, The Guardian reports.

Brugnaro told la Repubblica that during his election campaign it is his "promised" and "I have done it."

He also explained his decision by saying, "We do not want to discriminate against children."

"At home parents can be called Dad One and Dad Two, but I have to think about the majority of families where there is a mother and a father," he added.

Brugnaro was elected mayor last month and banned nearly 50 books. Including the story of a penguin who was brought up by two male penguins entitled, 'And Tango Makes Three,' Telegraph reports.
