‘Surf N' Shack’: Shake Shack’s New, Limited Edition, Sustainable Lobster Roll Burger; Better than McDonald’s Lobster Roll Burger? [PHOTO]

Shake Shack team has just launched their newest innovation - the "Surf N' Shack", a burger featuring lobster salad as topping to their signature meat patty, according to Food Beast.

The cult-favorite burger chain reportedly created the "Surf N' Shack" lobster roll burger for the summer season and as homage to lobster, New England's favorite crustacean.

Shake Shack's new lobster roll snack is created with 100% all-natural Angus hamburger, and topped with lobster salad that's made with lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce. Claw-5 and of course, Maine lobster.

It is also worth noting that the lobster used in the new Surf N' Shack is fresh lobster meat sourced from the local and sustainable Homarus.

The price of the Surf N' Shack is a considerable $8.99, mainly because lobster isn't cheap nowadays.

Being limited edition, Shake Shack's new lobster roll burger is only available in their Boston and Connecticut locations from August 17 till September 20.

Though pricey, according to Eater, Shake Shack's $8.99 lobster roll burger made with quality Angus beef burger and sustainable lobster is noticeably cheaper that McDonald's awful lobster roll worth a dollar more. The web publication added that while the Surf N' Shack is at par with lobster rolls in other chain restaurants, Shake Shack's version includes an Angus beef patty, making its preparation more time consuming, thus affecting its price.

Lobster prices are higher this year than it has ever been in past years past. Maine lobster is reportedly selling for $6 to $8 a pound, a $2 rise from last year's price.

According to Business Insider, while the price of lobster has continuously dropped over the last decade, it has seen a resurgence this year mainly as this "past year's harsh winter around New England dropped ocean temperatures around Maine to the lower end of the lobster comfort zone."

BI also reported that cold waters affect the time when lobsters shed their skin. With cold waters, lobsters' skin shedding is delayed, and fishermen aren't able to catch as many lobsters as usual.

A note from Shake Shack:

"The Surf 'N' Shack will be available at our New Haven, Westport, Newbury Street, Dedham, Harvard Square, and Chestnut Hill Shacks only. Please note that from 8/17-9/20, shellfish will be present at these Shacks. Although the shellfish will be processed on a separate surface, cross-contact is always possible."
