'The Lion King' Sequel Stars Rob Lowe, Gabrielle Union, Max Charles, And More

A made-for-TV sequel of the 1994 animated musical film 'The Lion King' will be back on-screen soon and Walt Disney has just revealed the names of the cast on Wednesday, August 12. Rob Lowe will lend his voice to main character 'Simba', Gabrielle Union will dub for 'Nala' and Max Charles will play 'Kion', according to reports.

Actors James Earl Jones and Ernie Sabella, who both starred in the original movie, will reprise their roles as Mufasa and Pumbaa, respectively.

The 'Teen Titans' star Khary Payton will be voicing the character of Rafiki and voice actor Kevin Schon, who's best known for his dubbing in 'Stuart Little 3', will return as Timon from the series 'The Lion King's Timon and Pumbaa'.

Other stars including Sarah Hyland from 'Modern Family' and Eden Riegel from 'All My Children' are confirmed to be joining the already star-studded cast. 

The made-for-TV sequel called 'The Lion Guard' which will be premiering in November, will be focused on Kion's character as he takes the lead among the rest of the animals obliged to preserve and protect the Pride Land.

Kion prefers to have himself surrounded with friends who he thinks have heroic traits, such as the fearless Bunga dubbed by Joshua Rush, the confident cheetah Fuli dubbed by singer-songwriter Diamond White, the kind-hearted hippo Beshte dubbed by Dusan Brown and the smart egret Ono dubbed by the Attucys Shaffer of the Middle.

Under the direction of Howy Parkins, the sequel will be featuring music from composer Chris Willis and singer-instrumentalist, Beau Black.

'The Lion Guard' which was developed by Ford Riley, will air starting in 2016 on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

The original movie 'The Lion King' in 1994 which brought home two Oscar awards, has grossed a total of $987.4 million worldwide, with its classical hit soundtrack selling more than 15 million units worldwide.
