Ronda Rousey Wants To Join Marvel Cinematic Universe

Is Hollywood the next challenge for Ronda Rousey? During an 'Ask Me Anything' session on Reddit, The MMA superstar and current UFC women's bantamweight champion was asked which superhero she would like to play on screen. Rousey responded, saying:

"well... a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I'd like to vie for Miss Marvel."

Miss Marvel is a female superheroine created by (as the name suggests) Marvel comics. In modern day comic lore, the character usually goes by the name 'Captain Marvel', which is the title Disney and Marvel Studios are using for their planned 2018 standalone film featuring the character. The comic book stories have featured many women in the role of Captain Marvel, but the studio has confirmed that the film adaptation will focus on Carol Danvers, the first to hold the mantle.

The role is the only one in Marvel's slate of upcoming movies that remains vacant. The studio has already cast the other key phase 3 superheroes such as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

Could Rousey's comment sway the decision in her favor? The champion fighter has slowly been making a name for herself outside the Octagon. This year she starred in two films: a small role in the smash hit summer blockbuster 'Furious Seven', and a larger part playing herself in the big screen return of HBO's comedy 'Entourage'. In addition she was also in last year's 'Expendables 3.'

If Rousey really wants the role, she'll be facing some stiff competition. Some names that have bounced around the rumor mill include Academy Award nominee Jessi ca Chastain and Jurassic World's Bryce Dallas Howard. A couple of months ago, Howard also voiced her desire to be part of the MCU. Here's what she told Cinemablend:

Oh my God, will you write that? Will you write that please? Yes, let's start a campaign now. That would be rad. Those movies are so fantastic, because talk about just these incredibly drawn characters! That's the joy of the comics, is that you fall in love with these characters and it's who they are that carries you from journey to journey to journey... it's not just about set pieces. It's really about who these people are, and so, yes, I just would love to be in a Marvel film.
