The original "Beetlejuice" movie from 1988 was a star-making film for a whole lot of people, as everyone on exploded into superstardom within the next few years, with people like Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder - the latter of whom just confirmed she's in the "Beetlejuice 2" cast!
There have been ongoing rumor about a "Beetlejuice 2" cast, as director Tim Burton dropped the bomb late last year that a sequel to the cult classic was coming, saying that there was already a script out and they were looking for Keaton to return to the title role.
According to Time Magazine, the whole thing has been officially reconfirmed now, as in a recent interview Ryder spoke about joining the "Beetlejuice 2" cast, returning to the role that made her famous, Lydia Deetz, and working with Burton for the first time since "Frankenweenie," in what would be their fourth collaboration.
"I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview," said Ryder to Seth Mayers about joining the "Beetlejuice 2" cast, according to Coming Soon. "It was very hush-hush, top secret, 'I don't know what may happen, I don't know,' and then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's gonna be in it.' So can I say...? I mean if he said it. But I really don't know much more than anybody else."
Entertainment Weekly reports that Keaton, Betelgeuse himself, spoke a bit about joining the "Beetlejuice 2" cast last year, saying he'd e-mailed with Burton and talked to the script's writer a few times but it was all "really preliminary stuff" - but that was in February 2014, over a year ago now, even long before his wide critical acclaim and Golden Globe for "Birdman."
It would appear that Baldwin and Davis aren't involved in the film's plans, but two our of four isn't too bad - watch Winona talk about the project below!
