There seems to be no stopping Donald Trump's campaign. In the wake of the first republican presidential debate, the real estate mogul turned presidential candidate retained his spot atop the polls despite firing off offensive comments against Fox News' Megyn Kelly.
A survey conducted by NBC News and Survey Monkey shows trump comfortably in the lead with 23% support. The second placer, Texas senator Ted Cruz, was also the poll's biggest gainer. He earned 7% percentage points to vault him into the number 2 spot with 13%. Ben Carson is the only other candidate in double digits with 11%.
Trump's spat with Kelly began on Friday during an interview with CNN after the debate. Kelly, who serve as moderator for the discussion, aggressively questioned Trump throughout the event. This prompted CNN to ask Trump where the tension between the two stemmed from. He insinuated that Kelly's actions toward him were the result of her menstrual cycle:
"She gets out and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions," Said Trump over the phone. "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her... wherever."
He also said that he doesn't respect her as a journalist and called her 'highly overrated.'
His remarks sparked a furor in the press, with many labelling him a misogynist.
After the interview many members of the Republican Party slammed Trump for his choice of words. His fellow presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina quickly pounced, taking to twitter to criticize his views. She told CNN:
"Women understood that comment. And yes, it is offensive."
Trump was also taken off the list of attendees at the RedState gathering, a major conservative event. During the conference, Jeb Bush, another of Trump's frequent sparring mates in the press said:
"What Donald Trump said is wrong."
