Guy Fawkes Day 2012: Hackers Threaten Facebook and Zynga, NBC.com and Lady Gaga Fan Page Have Been Hacked

November 5 is Guy Fawkes Day, where hacker groups such as Anonymous has threatened to hack Facebook and Zynga. NBC's portal and a Lady Gaga fan page have already been hacked by someone or a group named "Pyknic", resulting in downtime for portions of the website, including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

According to PC Magazine, the video section of NBC was taken over and replaced with a looping audio track and text saying "REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER, THE GUNPOWDER TREASON AND PLOT. I KNOW OF NO REASON WHY THE GUNPOWDER TREASON SHOULD EVER BE FORGOT."

The Guy Fawkes mask has been the symbol for hacker group "Anonymous", in order to hide the identities of its members in public. It recently added Zynga to its list of targets, saying it will release Zynga's games for free. The group is also targeting Facebook for its user privacy violations.

The NBC website was restored at the time of posting this article.
