Twitter Adds ‘Trending News’ Feature To Mobile Apps

Twitter has started testing a new 'Trending News' tab for its mobile apps. The new feature, intended to keep users on patronizing the platform, is developed for Android and iOS apps in the United States to provide breaking and latest news to the users.

"We're experimenting with a news experience on iOS and Android as we continue to explore new ways to surface the best content to users," a spokesperson stated.

Twitter users spotted the latest added feature located in between the Home, Notifications, Messages and Profile tabs. It shows a list of tweets from major media companies that highlight news.

Users who want to be constantly updated with the recent happenings can take advantage of the new Trending News tab. Contemporary reports from sources like the New York Times and USA Today will be provided which users can click to read the full article.

Many users suggested for the company to consider focusing the news to their specific areas of interest like current affairs, sports, music and many others. In this way, the new service will be more valuable to the Twitter users.

Twitter is currently working on a new program called Project Lightning which like the News tab feature is targeted to make the platform more appealing to the people. The social media site seems determined to keep its users for good.

Earlier, the company decided to remove the appealing wallpapers from the home and notification timelines of the users. Many did not like the plain white background replacement of the preset backgrounds and customized wallpapers.

Twitter has not yet made the new feature available to users based outside of the US. The company did not confirm if the new addition will be available to all or only in select locations.

Twitter will no longer be using the #Discover tab which allows users to know the activities of the people they follow on the social media site.
