Chipotle has overtaken Subway as the people's choice for healthy fast food. In fact, people from the Internet have been more inclined to eat from the burrito chain for its beneficial effects.
Andrew Hawryluk - a 23-year-old California local who has eaten Chipotle everyday for over 160 straight days - has even chronicled his Chipotle journey on his website, Chipotlife.com.
In some blog posts, Andrew Hawryluk shows off not just a toned physique, but a muscular one at that! The young animator has proven that fast food chain Chipotle can still serve healthy meals.
Not only that, but those who participate in the Whole30 diet trend - which doesn't include processed foods - note that Chipotle has the best health-oriented options than any other fast food chain.
Talking to Business Insider, Darren Tristano, executive vice president of Technomic -- a food industry research firm - says: "The fact they've convinced customers that the product is healthy is incredible. We're talking about 1300 calorie burritos."
While Chipotle celebrates increase in sales, Subway is unfortunately left to face with declining sales. The sandwich chain introduced "fresh" fast food concept to the public 20 years ago.
The Washington Post also reports that Subway's sales for the US region have dropped by three percent last year, which has been deemed "the most of any of the top 25 fast-food chains."
Not only that, but for the first time in seven years, Subway became only the third most popular fast food restaurant.
Tristano also notes that Chipotle's newfound popularity is partially attributed to new generations. "Millenials care less about calories and more about where their food comes from," Tristano explained.
Although Subway offers low-fat items on their menu, American customers are more worried about the meats and sauces being "overly processed with fillers and additives."
On the other hand, Chiptole has made a name in serving meat that is chopped fresh on a daily basis, in addition to not having any human antibiotics.
