The hit Fox series 'Sleepy Hollow' has been about Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) teaming up with Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) and trying to chase down the Headless Horseman, who has been resurrected by an unknown party.
Although it has already been established that the Hessian is just a pawn in the plans of the evil Moloch (Derek Mears), the Headless Horseman is still one of the most important antagonists in the show.
So will the Headless Horseman return in 'Sleepy Hollow' Season Three?
New series runner Clifton Campbell has just told TVGuide.com that he won't be back, at least for now.
"There won't be any Headless this year," he said.
So what will happen in the new season?
"We have a new framework and a new set of rules for the mythology, and it all starts with the introduction of our new big bad and will take us into a very interesting device which will allow us to see a somewhat more compelling, but more personal threat to both Abbie and Crane," Campbell said.
It's not all bad news. Clifton Campbell also revealed that Zack Appelman will return as Joe Corbin, who will be teaming up with Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) in their own story arc.
"Jenny and Joe are going to track down a lot of things that are going to help Abbie and Crane, and in doing so really do a deep dive on their past and their connections to each other," the new showrunner revealed. "It allows Jenny and Joe to be more operative and on their feet in their support and help of Abbie and Crane and fills out the gang in a much more interesting, emotional way."
'Sleepy Hollow' will also be getting a new series regular in Shannyn Sossamon. The 'Wayward Pines' actress will play Pandora, a mysterious woman who reaches out to Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane for help.
The third season of 'Sleepy Hollow' will premiere on Fox on October 1.
