Over the course of decades, In-N-Out Burger has turned into the West Coast's favorite fast food chain, even currently expanding further to other locations on the other side of the country, including Texas - but back at home in Los Angeles, California, one man's In-N-Out shake reportedly had much more than he had bargained for.
In a story that sounds straight out of a "Breaking Bad" episode located in the series' fried chicken restaurants Los Pollos Hermanos, an L.A. man is currently suing Anthony Bourdain's favorite fast food chain claiming that, when visiting last an ordering an In-N-Out shake, it actually contained meth.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the plaintiff is a man named Fred Maldonado, who claims he ordered a burger along with an In-N-Out shake on March 9, 2014, realizing after having drank half the beverage that it actually contained meth inside.
Allegedly, there were actually two blue gelatin pills and a napkin at the bottle of his In-N-Out shake, which prompted him to return to the Southern California venue, where the store's manager offered him apologies and a gift certificate for a free burger, the lawsuit claims.
LA Ist reports that Maldonado's lawsuit explains that he felt "nausea and severe mental illness" upon drinking the In-N-Out shake, then falling asleep; it wasn't until a few days later that he went to the Utica Toxicology Service to have the drink tested, and as toxicology findings from last year show, it was found that both the napkin and the cup had tested positive for the drug.
"Plaintiff did not initially know what there two capsules were, but later testing revealed that they were methamphetamine and that it appeared that they may have been illicitly manufactured," reads the lawsuit, according to The New York Daily News.
On the subject of the In-N-Out shake, the company's executive vice-president Arnie Wensinger has said the claims are "baseless," saying the chain will "vigorously defend" themselves against it.
