Now here's a bit of marketing synergy. Fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has just unveiled a variant of their famous Fried Chicken bucket meal that allows you to print Polaroid photos from a printer built directly into the packaging.
Dubbed the 'Memories Bucket', the new gimmick seems to encourage customers to take and share photos of themselves enjoying a piece of KFC's famous chicken. The short minute long video where the meal was unveiled shows a small photo printer being installed into the base of the bucket. Then, presumably through Bluetooth, customers can connect their camera or smartphone and have pictures printed out Polaroid style.
This elaborate idea was conceived to celebrate KFC's 60th anniversary in Canada. The company has not mentioned if this contraption will make its way to other outlets across the globe or acknowledged that this is even a product that will be available for purchase in Canadian branches.
KFC is well known for their outlandish and bizarre regional marketing tactics. The Philippine arm of the fired chicken giant made waves across social media earlier this year when they unveiled the 'Double Down Dog.' The controversial sandwich featured a cheese sauce coated hot dog nestled between two fried chicken 'buns'. The sandwich was only available for a limited time but it garnered the company a massive amount of attention across the world. Perhaps KFC is hoping this new printer will be have the same result.
It isn't the first time a fast food company has tried to blend electronics into their marketing efforts. A couple of months back, Pizza Hut Hong Kong unveiled their own smartphone centred promotion called 'Blockbuster Boxes.' The pizza boxes could be converted into a makeshift film projector that could display whatever video was playing on your smartphone.
