Madeleine McCann found will come as somewhat both of a good news and bad news as Australian authorities contacted the Scotland Yard over a body found in a suitcase they believed to be of Madeleine McCann.
The body of Madeleine McCann found may entail good news since it means the search for the little girl is finally over and her family can be put to rest. However, the bad news over this suitcase body being of Madeleine's means she is already dead.
British police detectives will reportedly either fly to Australia to carry out crucial tests to identify the body, or they would have to wait for samples from the suitcase corpse to be sent to them.
In 2007, at the age of almost 4 years old, Madeleine McCann disappeared from a Portugal apartment rented by her parents while vacationing. Since the day she has gone missing, an international search has ensued and reports of Madeleine sightings have been going on around the world. However, there remains no confirmed sightings, and nobody has been charged with McCann's disappearance, according to the Huffington Post.
There may be a lead though which could mean Madeleine McCann has been found. South Australia Police have located the remains of a girl aged between 2 and 4 years old earlier this month. The body was stuffed inside a suitcase, placed on a highway near Adelaide, according to NBC News. The suitcase reportedly contained little girls' clothes including a tutu, a coat and slippers.
The body in the suitcase has yet to be identified, but authorities say the victim is likely white with light-colored hair measured at 7 inches long, Police said the girl had been killed at a separate location sometime in the early part of 2007, according to NBC News.
However, police added that it's "highly unlikely" for the body to be of Madeleine McCann found, The Guardian reported.
Meanwhile, the Scotland Yard has confirmed contact with Australian authorities regarding the suitcase body.
"There is absolutely no evidence at this point in time that the child is Madeleine McCann," said Australian police commissioner Grant Stevens at a parliamentary hearing. "To suggest something like that at this point in time would purely be speculating to get attention."
The multi-million pound investigation dedicated to the search for Madeleine McCann is called Operation Grange. Officers assigned to the operation has refused to comment details of the child's DNA getting checked against bones and fabric on the suitcase body.
However, Oz cops speculate that the victim in the suitcase, though not Madeleine McCann found, could have died some eight years ago, reported Mirror.
