Michael Jackson's Father Joe In ICU After Stroke - During 87th Birthday Celebration In Brazil

The life of the man often credited with the success of the Jackson family, particularly of most famous children Michael and Janet, is currently on the line, as it has come out that Michael Jackson's father has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a Brazilian hospital after suffering a stroke.

Janet and Michael Jackson's father, 87, was on a summer holiday in Sao Paolo, Brazil, to celebrate his birthday last Sunday, when things got sour all of the sudden as he suffered a stroke that may have partially blinded him, for which he was admitted at the city's Albert Einstein Hospital.

According to The Daily Mail, Michael Jackson's father was planning a huge party for his birthday last Sunday, costing a reported $200,000 - but the health incident halted the celebrations when he woke up suddenly dizzy and left blind after the sudden stroke.

"Join me on the 26th of July to celebrate 87 full years on earth. The greatest adventure you can take on this world, is to live your life and enjoy the ride," Michael Jackson's father had written on his website.

The father of the Jackson 5 suffers from diabetes, a condition that has been said was a factor in his recent stroke.

TMZ reports that doctors are running further tests to see whether Joe's blindness will be a permanent condition or just a passing one, while the family decides whether the condition of Michael Jackson's father is strong enough to be flown back to the United States for further testing.

As The Mirror reports, Michael spoke at length about his difficult relationship with his father growing up, having told Oprah Winfrey that Joe had abused him physically, verbally and emotionally, telling Michael things like how he had a "fat nose."

In fact, decades after these incidents, many fans still blame Joe for the self-image issues the King of Pop suffered from throughout his life.

There are no official comments from the family regarding the condition of Michael Jackson's father.
