The villains are getting ready to take over 'Gotham.'
The new TV spots for the Fox series are hinting on a huge lineup of baddies who are planning to tear the city apart. The second season of 'Gotham' has now been given the tagline 'Rise of the Villains.'
There are two TV spots offering glimpses at what's in store for Season Two. 'Hungry' finds James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) seeking the help of Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) in keeping Gotham safe. Newcomer Theo Galavan (James Frain) makes an appearance, and the return of Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) is confirmed by the TV spot.
The most exciting part of 'Hungry' is the leather-clad Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) cracking a whip and shooting her gun as she marches forward. The character is expected to eventually transform into the DC villainess Tigress as the season progresses.
'The Cave' shows exactly what the world is expecting to see: the Batcave. Young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is seen inspecting the digital lock in the cave with Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) before punching in the code.
'Gotham' may be getting new villains, but the show is also adding a new good guy to keep the city in check. Former 'Shields' actor Michael Chiklis was recently cast as Captain Nathaniel Barnes.
According to 'Gotham' producers, Barnes is a force to reckon with and an inspiration for James Gordon.
"He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies - on either side of the law. For Gordon, Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism."
But like most characters in 'Gotham,' Barnes may be too good to be true. The producers say that, "Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon, but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy."
'Gotham' returns to Fox on September 21, 2015.
