The multi-talented British comedian recently made Simon Pegg 2015 news when it was announced he'd be playing an alien extra in the highly expected film "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," but his role in the competing science fiction franchise, "Star Trek," is much larger than that - and there were times where he almost quit.
Besides starring in the reboot trilogy as Scotty (a role originally played by James Doohan), Simon Pegg's 2015 duties for the United Federation of Planets hardly end there, as he was also commissioned to write the screenplay for the third installment of the new franchise, something that turned into a nightmare.
As Cinema Blend reports, Simon Pegg's 2015 writing gig came after the actor and comedian already had a few very successful and quirky comedies to his name, most notably co-writing and starring on on Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy: 2004's "Shaun of the Dead," the 2007 action comedy "Hot Fuzz" and 2013's "The World's End."
However, the pressure on writing on such hugely popular material took a toll on Simon Pegg's 2015, and he told director and frequent collaborator J.J. Abrams he wanted to quit numerous times - but he ultimately went through with the script.
"I quit like three times, I think," said Simon Pegg in 2015 to The Sydney Morning Herald. "Every time, J. J. Abrams said, 'Oh come on, Simon ...'"
Pegg also spoke to The New York Daily News about the pressure he was under while writing the script, as time constraints also became a problem during the process, as he and co-writer Doug Jung had to rush things over.
Of course, ultimately he finished the job, currently in production; he'll be reprising the role of Scotty and will co-star Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and the recently announced British actor Idris Elba.
Besides "Star Trek" and his "Star Wars" cameo, Simon Pegg's 2015 is getting pretty exciting due to his return to another big franchise, with Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation."
