Twitter has removed the appealing wallpapers from the home and notification timelines of the users'. Both the preset backgrounds and customized wallpapers have been replaced with a plain white background.

The change that shocked the users was confirmed by the social media site. A Twitter spokesperson states, "We're removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all users."

"Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages). You can find help center content about customizing your design and where it's visible on Twitter here," the spokesperson added.

The social media platform has provided users with a procedure so they can customize their design theme. However, only those who will view one's Tweet detail page will see the theme. Aside from the theme color, design theme will not be seen on the Home timeline and profile.

Many were disappointed by the sudden change made by Twitter. A number of users called it 'blinding white' as they are now unable to change the background image of their profile. Myspace did the same thing in the past to avoid the pages from looking messy.

The social media site's new boring look gained complaints on the Twittersphere. One user stated that the only reason that is keeping her use Twitter is now gone.

Another user expressed his dismay on a tweet.

A different user shared the same sentiment.

Twitter has not released any details or explanation regarding the removal of backgrounds. Many believe that a blank background can offer Twitter an opportunity to deliver ads on each side of the page.
