McDonald's is one of the most popular fast food restaurants around the world. The fast food giant is now being asked to consider healthier options to allow "other" customers to enjoy eating in a fast food chain. Kathy Freston, vegan author and wellness advocate together with other celebrities such as Rusell Simons, Pam Anderson, Alicia Silverstone, etc. are now asking McDonald's to provide their customers "healthy meatless option." They are asking the fast food giant to add more options in their menu that will cater to vegan or vegetarian customers or those who wish to enjoy a healthy diet while eating at their restaurant.
The fast food industry is said to be one of reasons that contribute to the alarming increase of people suffering from heart disease and obesity.
Freston has already launched a petition in Change.org, asking McDonald's to add "plant-based protein options" to its menu. This petition is now being spread on the social media and has more than 95,000 signatures. They are targeting to reach 150,000 signatures and send it to McDonald's executives.
"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is also supporting this petition. The link of the petition was also posted in their Facebook page to gather more support from their followers.
Freston is banking at the idea that adding healthier options will not only give McDonald's a great opportunity to itself but for the wellness of a lot of Americans. She said that this will also help in fighting the increasing health related problems such as obesity and heart disease.
McDonald's will remain as one of the giants in the fast food industry. Asking this giant to consider adding healthier options to their menu will definitely help them to be more successful in their business. Other than that, it will also help people to become more aware that they have a choice to be healthy.
