'Warcraft' Director Duncan Jones Explains Why His Film Is Different From Other Videogame Movies [VIDEO]

There is much excitement over the live action adaptation of 'Warcraft' since the film's crew made an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con. The panel unveiled the posters as well as the official movie trailer, which will be released publicly in November.

In the meantime, director Duncan Jones wants fans to know that 'Warcraft' will be a bar above other videogame films because he is aware of how to make the movie work.

"As soon as I saw David Fincher make a movie out of Facebook, I felt like anything was possible," Jones said to io9. "The source of your material is not necessarily going to dictate whether you can make a good movie. It's finding an element of truth in it, or a thread which you can build a story around."

Jones also pointed to the game's storyline in helping him find the right way to create the film.

"Now, fortunately, Warcraft has 20 years of storytelling to pick from," he said. "And for us, the obvious choice was to go right to the beginning of that story when Orcs first met Humans. That was kind of our initial set up. And then a lot of things fall into place from that. You kind of know who your main characters are going to be because you have the lore to set you on the path at that point."

Duncan Jones said that the game creators had also helped him steer the movie in the right direction.

"Working with the guys at Blizzard, using their creativity and our own, I think we were able to refine and pair down what it is that would make a good core story for a film because a film is always going to be different from a game," he said. "And you always have to have a narrative. The audience isn't going to be there to choose the story for you."

'Warcraft' is scheduled for release in June 2016.
