Alongside Lex Luthor, The Joker is arguably the most iconic villain in DC Comics, having been played in the past on the small and big screen by actors like Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Mark Hammill and even an Oscar-winning turn for Heath Ledger, and now it seems like Cameron Monaghan's Joker might be stepping in officially in "Gotham."
The first season of "Gotham," a show unrelated to DC movies that about some of the characters' original stories, featured a glimpse of Cameron Monaghan's Joker, though it wasn't altogether sure if he was the evil villain, as over in Toronto, Canada, the cast of "Suicide Squad" films a movie featuring Oscar winner Jared Leto as the iconic Batman nemesis.
According to Entertainment Weekly, "Gotham" fans are now getting excited over the possibility of a larger part for Cameron Monaghan's Joker in the show, after the 21 year-old actor uploaded a photo on his Instagram as a wink to fans.
Hollywood Life reports that Cameron Monaghan's Joker, Jerome for now, is featured on a black-and-white shot of the actor where he can be seen in a mugshot, looking just like the twisted psychopath comic book readers are used to seeing, prompting fans to wonder about his appearance in the show's second season.
"This is very much the beginning of the Joker saga," the series' showrunner Bruno Heller told People Magazine last February, when asked about Cameron Monaghan's Joker. "People will have to watch in the long run to see where this character goes and whether he is the Joker or not, but the whole show is about origin stories, and origins can be very complex and convoluted things. I will not confirm that it's the character himself - he may be - and I'm not trying to trick the audience, but we have a very precise and engaging story to tell."
Whether or not Cameron Monaghan's Joker is the real one or not, he definitely looks chilling in the role of Jerome!
