Gothic horror is set to make a terrifying comeback in the upcoming film 'Crimson Peak.' The thriller will be represented at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con by director Guillermo Del Toro and lead star Tom Hiddleston. According to Nerdist, Del Toro and Hiddleston will be joining 'Game of Thrones' star Maisie Williams and Chris Hardwick at the Bilboa Theater.
Just a few days before they take on the SDCC panel, new 'Crimson Peak' character posters have been released. The four posters feature Tom Hiddleston as Sir Thomas Sharpe, Jessica Chastain as Lady Lucille Sharpe, Mia Wasikowska as Edith Cushing and Charlie Hunnam as Dr. Alan McMichael.
The posters are decidedly darker than the first set, which featured the characters in a different light.
Del Toro recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his new film, and he wanted to be clear that 'Crimson Peak' is not a movie about a haunted house.
"It's not that at all," the director said. "The house is a rotting representation of the family that has inhabited it - it's like a cage, a killing jar that you use to kill butterflies. The house basically is a sinister, sinister trap."
The 'Pan's Labyrinth' director also explained that Edith's marriage to Thomas Sharpe is where the horror begins.
"[Usually] the marriage is sort of the climax or the high point of a story," Del Toro said. "I tried on 'Crimson' to say that the horror starts after the marriage. This girl wakes up in a strange place, not her own home, not her own bed, and she little by little realizes that she knows less about the man she married than one would expect.
"The curious thing is the love story really starts when they acknowledge that darkness," he added.
'Crimson Peak' will be released on October 16, 2015.
