Multinational tech company Samsung releases its first multi-terabyte solid-state drive (SSD) for laptops and desktops. The 2TB SSDs, namely the SSD 850 Pro and SSD 850 Evo will be priced at $1,000 and $850 respectively.
Samsung's Senior Vice President of Branded Product Marketing Un-Soo Kim mentioned that a growth in demand for higher capacity SSDs are being encountered by the company.
"The release of the 2TB SSD is a strong driver into the era of multi-terabyte SSD solutions," the senior vice president said.
Even though this is not the first 2 TB SSD to hit the market, the 850 Pro and Evo will contain the latest 3D vertical flash memory technology from Samsung, which make them function faster and more efficient. This will offer larger flash memory density and will provide systematized memory cells.
In addition, these new devices stand in dominance because of its multi-level cell (MLC) and triple-level cell (TLC) technology that contribute to even greater density. The memory size of these drives vary at 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB.
The new SSDs will remain to be at 7mm, 2.5-in aluminum case, the same with their 840 Pro and Evo predecessors.
The two drives further aid Samsung's TurboWrite technology, providing a high performance write buffer in SSD. This will quicken the writing speed in the course of transferring data. 850 Pro and Evo will also highlight the rapid mode that utilizes some share of the computer's RAM as writing stash for greater performance.
In terms of difference, SSD 850 Pro is a little faster than SSD 850 Evo. The two are greatly similar in terms of tasks, power consumption and encryption features.
Both have different sturdiness and warranty length. 850 Evo is ranked for a five-year warranty, while the 850 Pro is rated for a ten-year warranty.
