Princess Charlotte Christening: Details On The Baby Princess' Gown, Godparents And Ceremony

Two-month-old Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was baptized on July 5 at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

US Weekly reports that the baby princess' christening was held at the same church her late grandmother, Princess Diana was baptized in 1961.

Princess Charlotte arrived on Sunday afternoon in a pram owned by the Queen, with parents Kate Middleton and Prince William, who was walking hand-in-hand with almost 2-year-old Prince George.

Charlotte wore an angelic ivory christening gown, which was also used by her elder brother, George during his baptism in October 2013 at St. James' Palace.

The hand-made ivory satin and Honiton lace gown is a replica of the christening gown worn by generations of royal babies since the time of Queen Victoria, including their father and uncle, Prince Harry. Queen Elizabeth commissioned the replica in 2004 when the original laced gown has become too delicate to use.

Blessed with the Holy Water from Jordan River, where Jesus Christ was baptized, Princess Charlotte was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby. Rev. Welby, who also baptized Prince George, was assisted by The Reverend Canon Jonathan Riviere.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose two hymns, one lesson, and two anthems for the christening of their daughter, Princess Charlotte," according to the Kensington Palace. The hymns "Praise to the Lord the Almighty" and "Come Down, O Love Divine" were sung by the Sandringham Church Choir.

Princess Charlotte's godfather, James Meade read the lesson from Matthew, verses 1 to 5.

Other godparents were from Prince William and Kate's closest friends and family, Sophie Carter, Adam Middleton, the Honorary Laura Fellowes, and Thomas van Straubenzee.

Aside from the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, among the 30 guests were Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, her sister, Pippa and brother, James.
