Lady Gaga’s been known for her bold fashion choices – including some shoes from Filipino shoe designer Kermit Tesoro.
The 27-year-old designer recently unveiled his latest creation – a platform shoe surrounded by thick jewel-toned tentacles (yes, including those suckers).
The shoe is especially extraordinary given that there’s no ankle straps, buckles or anything to help one plant its foot aside from two curling tentacles near the toes and the heel of the foot.
Called “Polypodis,” the shoe took inspiration from Tesoro’s vacation in Norway. In one Instagram snap featuring preserved octopi in tubes, the designer explains, “When I was at Munch Museum, Norway. I was hypnotized and suddenly gravitated toward…this.”
Kermit Tesoro also took to explain the process of the shoe’s creation on his social media accounts. One snap was captioned, “Planula larva” stage,” which basically shows sketches of his design as well as a sculpture of a piece of the heels.
During the “Developing stage,” Kermit intricately sculpted the shoes along with four visible tentacles in the photo.
The shoe was then painted in lovely jewel green and blue tones before it was given a urethane layer.
Kermit Tesoro’s shoe designs often stem from natural organisms. According to StyleBible.ph, Kermit’s “design methodology has always been personal to [him].”
He continued, “I want to translate people’s deviations into my own creations. It’s like a fashion interpretation of the biological or psychological deviation of a person.”
