There are more than a few completely ridiculous Guinness World Records out there, from the most selfies in a minute to the spiciest pepper on the planet, but the world's longest pizza is the one making headlines these days as the Milan Expo's World Fair this summer just saw the creation of a pizza running almost a full mile!
Since 2011, the record for the world's longest pizza was held by a 2011 pie in Spain, particularly in the city of Tomelloso, which measured 1.141 km, a length completely broken and forgotten in Milan after their 1.59545 km pie, nearly a mile long!
According to The Independent, the world's longest pizza was a feat not only in its record-breaking length, but also in the amount of ingredients necessary to make it: it took 1.5 tons of mozzarella cheese and two tons of tomato sauce to make it, and the expo's organizers claim that the full pie in all its glorious length weighed 5 tons altogether.
Associated Press reports that the world's longest pizza was a work of love from over 60 of Italy's best pizza-makers, who cooked through the whole night during 18 hours to create this incredibly large pie, in an event attended by the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
According to Jezebel, after the pie was done, a judge from the Guinness World Records measured it in its entirety and confirmed it was indeed the world's longest pizza to date, and those people visiting the city for the expo can actually get slices of the gigantic pizza for free, so it's a sure thing it won't be going to waste.
While that's the world's longest pizza in the salty department, there's another type up for contest, the desert pizza, and it's a record also owned up by Milan, as they created a sugary one measuring 23 m in 2013.
