It's been 30 years since the aviation block buster movie Top Gun was released, now the sequel,Top Gun 2, the long anticipated sequel has been confirmed and Tom Cruise will return as Maverick. This accourding to an annpuncement from David Ellison Skydance CEO. Maverick will have an amazing role in the film.
David Ellison and CCO Dana Goldberg were asked about the status of Top Gun 2 in a group interview at the press day for Terminator Genisys in Berlin, Ellison stated, "Tom Cruise is starring in this one when he says "Maverick playing Maverick". What makes me curious is that this clearly can't be the same cocky kid from the original movie. I'm interested to see what that character looks like almost 30 years later, especially since his profession has changed so drastically. He used to be the hot shot, and now it appears he'll be the fossil."
Writing the screenplay for the Top Gun 2 will be Justin Marks, who also wrote for the Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
Co-producer Jerry Bruckheimer talked about the movie in 2014, Bruckheimer said that it will incorporate more advanced military aircraft. The concept of the film would be, the pilots became obsolete because of drones but Cruise as Maverick will prove that human pilots are not obsolete.
Tom Cruise's fellow past co-stars are still unclear to reprise their roles, such as Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis who played Cruise's love interest.
Jerry Bruckheimer stated, "It is very much a world we live in today where it's drone technology and fifth generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we're actually going to produce," Bruckheimer also added: "So it's really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today are all fun things that we're gonna get to dive into in this movie."
