The release of 'Ant-man' is fast approaching, yet new information continues to leak about the latest Marvel superhero flick.
[Mild spoilers ahead]
Cinemablend has just confirmed that Wasp, a.k.a. Janet van Dyne, will appear in 'Ant-man.' The revelation should not be taken as just plain rumors. After all, the source who announced Wasp's presence in 'Ant-man' is none other than Marvel's very own Kevin Feige.
The studio's president revealed that Janet van Dyne's appearance in 'Ant-man' will have a strong effect on the storyline involving Janet's husband Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and her daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly).
"It factors in in a number of spoilerish ways, but we will see Janet Van Dyne in action in this film, and part of sort of what happened to her - and then we will understand why that is the reason that [Hank] doesn't want his daughter to follow in those footsteps," Feige said.
Janet's story also explains why Hank would rather hand his suit over to a thief like Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) than to his own daughter. "Another very logical question in the movie is 'Why are you hiring this ex-con to put on your suit and do this?'" Feige continues.
"The answer is because he has abilities in cracking security networks and in pulling off heists that nobody else has, which is really why he has to do it, but Hope is infinitely more capable of actually being a superhero in the beginning of this film, and we learn sort of, that's ultimately when Hank reveals for the first time, to the audience and even the first time to Hope, what actually happened in the past, and why he's so nervous about putting on that suit."
Feige was more secretive when asked on whether Hope will get her own suit, but he did offer a cryptic response. "There are things that we see towards the end of the film that indicate she could get one of her own," he said.
'Ant-man' drops into theaters on June 29, 2015.
