iPhone 5 TMobile 4G Compatibility Not Perfect Yet, but Customers May Save Money Bringing Their Unlocked Device to the Carrier

While Verizon, AT&T and Sprint compete over customers scouting out the new iPhone 5 released last week, T-Mobile stands as the only major US carrier without a single iPhone in its product line-up.

However, the company has not thrown in the towel just yet. On the contrary, the carrier has been working to extend 4G compatibility with Apple's flagship device nationwide.

Celebrating its accomplishments in building out its 4G network, the iPhone-less carrier is now seeking out new methods of grabbing market shares from the competition.

One of those strategies involves advertising what T-Mobile touts as the one-and-only unlimited nationwide 4G data plan.

Everyone who has followed technology news in the recent years will know that the iPhone, in its various incarnations, has cranked up overall data usage to unprecedented levels, causing carriers to restrict how much data their subscribers can use in a single month by throttling speeds or adding overage charges.

T-Mobile positions itself as the alternative that does not limit users to a certain amount of data, or that does not offer 4G data in certain areas. The carrier is also developing iOS versions of their customer apps such as T-Mobile myAccoun, T-Mobile Visual Mail, and T-Mobile TV.

In addition, they write on their Issues & Insight Blog that people who buy an unlocked iPhone, and bring it to T-Mobile's network, will actually save money in the long run, although the up-front fee of an unlocked iPhone can be daunting for many.

Some stores have also been reported of having staff dedicated to instructing iPhone-customers on how they can set up their device to run on T-Mobile's network.

It remains to be seen how T-Mobile's iPhone strategy will work out, but who can say they are not trying?
