New Orleans Police Arrest Suspect in Killing an NOPD Officer

On Sunday, after an intense 24-hour manhunt, New Orleans police arrested a man suspected in killing a New Orleans police officer. Police officers handcuffed the suspect Travis Boys, age 33 as they transported him to jail.

The victim was Officer Daryle Holloway, 45 years old. It still is a question how Travis Boys obtained the two weapons, a .38-caliber handgun and a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson, found at the crime scene.

Authorities said, Travis Boys will be charged of first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated escape and illegal possession of firearms.

While Police Superintendent Michael Harrison, as he stood in front of a memorial to the city's fallen police officers, told the reporters, "To my understanding, he got on the bus after spotting the officers. And the officers saw that and then he got off the bus and then was apprehended."

Harrison said, Travis Boys were taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent dehydration. And WDSU-TV showed a video that, as authorities put the suspect into an ambulance, Boys' head slumped over while being strapped in the wheeled stretcher.

Michael Harrison said they will investigate the .40 caliber weapon recovered by the authorities, believed to be the weapon used by Boys to shoot the police officer.

Harrison also stated, "That is under investigation so we realize that's an obvious issue. So there are safety concerns, procedural concerns between training and internal investigations we're going to find out how that happened to insure that that absolutely never happens again."

When Superintendent Michael Harrison met Holloway's two children and Holloway's former wife at the hospital after Holloway died, he said that as a new chief of the department, it was the hardest thing he has done in his life. It was only last year when Harrison became the chief of the department.

Harrison said about Officer Daryle Holloway, "Until yesterday, he was a guy who was full of life. He told jokes ... You couldn't be around him for more than a minute or two and he would become your friend."
