Eminem Brings Out a “Phenomenal” Single

Eminem contributes to the upcoming motion picture 'Southpaw' by releasing his newest single "Phenomenal". the uplifting tune was made available for purchase on iTunes on June 2nd and is produced by frequent collaborator, DJ Khalil. While the release of a new Eminem song may lead some to believe an album is on the way, D12's Mr. Porter, confirmed in a recent interview that is highly unlikely. However, there is good news. In the same interview, Mr. Porter goes on to say he's due to hit the studio with Em next week. Album or no album, Marshall is working.

The clip - released Wednesday (Jun. 17) - features a boxing theme, which makes perfect sense. The cut is, after all, featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming movie. The Jake Gyllenhaal movie details a boxer's tragedies and triumphs. The cover for Southpaw's soundtrack was unveiled earlier this month. It features a bloodied Gyllenhaal and his co-stars, including Rachel McAdams. But the song is not just meant to motivate fighters. It's got enough to get pretty much anyone through a tough day. The movie arrives in theaters on July 24th.

The lead role of Southpaw, which now stars Jake Gyllenhaal, was originally offered to the 8 Mile-starring actor, but he turned it down to focus on his music. The screenplay is said to be loosely based on Eminem's struggle throughout his early career. The story follows Gyllenhaal, a left-handed boxer at the height of his fame, as he works his way back to the top after his wife( Rachel McAdams) is killed and he loses hid daughter to child services. With "Phenomenal" as the motivational song guiding Gyllenhaal, we have no doubt that he will persevere. Take a listen for yourself and try to keep up with Em's high-energy raps in the lyric video below.
